{"id":1194,"date":"2024-05-01T01:44:57","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T01:44:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/caac-ma.org\/?p=1194"},"modified":"2025-04-30T23:30:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-01T03:30:47","slug":"4th-annual-aapi-book-drive-2024-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caac-ma.org\/?p=1194","title":{"rendered":"CAAC Launches 4th Annual AAPI Book Drive for Cambridge  Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On May 1, 2024, the Chinese American Association of Cambridge (CAAC) kicked off its 4th AAPI Book Drive, marking the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-outline is-style-outline--1\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-red-background-color has-background has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/caac-ma.org\/?page_id=70\" style=\"border-radius:20px\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donate<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The fundraising period runs from May 2024 through February 2025. Every dollar raised will go toward purchasing new books by AAPI authors, which will be donated to schools in Cambridge. Donations are accepted via PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle. Visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/caac-ma.org\/?page_id=70\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">donation page<\/a> for further details on how to contribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Highlights from Past Book Drives<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2021, CAAC has held three AAPI book drives, raising a total of $26,332 and donating over 1,900 books:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2021-2022 School Year:<\/strong> Raised $12,374 and donated 955 books to 33 schools in Cambridge and Somerville. (CPS instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tv\/CZrws-6F7Q8\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">post<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2022-2023 School Year:<\/strong> Raised $5,538.62:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>$4,341.66 for Cambridge, donating 270 books across 17 CPS schools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$1,241.31 for Somerville, with funds currently being processed for donation by our partner, the Somerville Asian Family Network (SAFN).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2023-2024 School Year:<\/strong> Raised $8,419.94, donating 702 books and sponsoring a talk by author Kelly Yang for all 4th and 5th graders in CPS schools. Using $1,519.20 from the funds, we purchased 100 copies of <em>Finally Heard<\/em> to support this event. \u201cKids are clamoring to read her books across the city. We had 446 students and teachers viewing the live stream,\u201d said Sarah T.
